Residents trying to conduct business with the province online Friday night may have come across an interesting message on government’s website.

For several hours, visitors to Ontario.ca were greeted by the image of a boy along with the video to MC Hammer’s “U Can’t Touch This” on the website’s homepage following an apparent hack.

The words “Hacked” and the hashtag “Unarrestable” also appeared.

In a release issued Friday night, Zita Astravas, press secretary for Premier Kathleen Wynne, said it was a third-party domain routing service that was hacked, not the government’s sites.

“No personal information or any government data was compromised and the websites remain secure,” she said.

“Government IT experts are working with the external domain name hosting provider to restore access as quickly as possible.

"We take cyber security issues very seriously and we are committed to safeguarding the data entrusted to us by Ontario’s citizens and businesses.”
