A 56-year-old Toronto man has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit and run that occurred late last year.

On May 31 2015, Nelisa Damota, a 39-year-old mother of three, was struck by a vehicle on Bloor Street West after stopping at the bank.

The incident occurred around 9 p.m. west of Dovercourt.

The woman was taken to St. Michael’s Hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.

A suspect identified as Deriba Wakene has been charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing death.

The suspect was first identified by police last June along with another man, a 34-year-old Toronto resident. Police say the second man is no longer a suspect in the case.
