Police are hunting for as many as three suspects, believed to be armed, after shots were fired in an area where officers happened to be in North York Tuesday night.

It happened in the Jane Street and Driftwood Avenue area shortly after 9 p.m.

According to police, plainclothes officers were in the area with Toronto Community Housing Corp. employees when the shots were fired.

No shots were fired by the officers, a police representative said.

Officers, including the Emergency Task Force, canine units and a York Regional Police helicopter, are currently in the area where a command post has also been set up.

Descriptions of the suspects were not immediately provided by police.

There are currently no reports of any injuries.
