A family whose Lawrence Manor home has been hit by gunfire three times already this year will be relocated ‘as quickly as possible,’ a representative with Toronto Community Housing says.

The announcement Tuesday afternoon comes just hours after the latest shooting incident which sent a bullet into the second-storey bedroom of a three-year-old child.

According to police, the same building, located on Neptune Drive, in the Bathurst Street and Highway 401 area, was hit with gunfire on Jan. 29.

The family was not home at the time.

The tenant – a woman who lives in the building with her three children, ages 3, 8 and 16, told CP24 that shots were also fired at her home on Jan. 6.

At the time she said she contacted TCHC and asked to be relocated because she feared her life was in danger.

TCHC representatives told her there was a waiting list, she said, so she left the unit with her children, first staying with a cousin, and then moving temporarily to a shelter. She only returned Monday, after TCHC officials assured that her home was safe.

The very next day, assailants targeted her home again.

Police said that two suspects fired numerous 9mm rounds into the unit at around 1:55 a.m. this morning.

Bullets entered the living room and kitchen, as well as the young child’s bedroom.

Two bullets became lodged in a refrigerator in the kitchen, while another pierced a neighbour’s third-floor window.

Several shell casings were found in the courtyard. No injuries were reported.

In an email received by CP24 Tuesday afternoon, a TCHC official confirmed that the family will be relocated under a “special priority” transfer.

“The transfers are done as quickly as possible,” TCHC spokesperson Lisa Murray said.

“This category of transfer includes residents who are victims of criminal activity that is likely to continue in the unit of the community.”

Murray said that the housing agency is working closely with police “to address all criminal activity in our communities, including gun violence.”

There are 5,500 security cameras located on TCHC properties, including “dozens” located at the property on Neptune Drive, Murray said.

Anyone with information about any of these incidents is asked to contact police at 416-808-3200 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
