Toronto police have confirmed a body found in the shipping canal of Polson Pier on Thursday morning is that of Mason MacPhail.

MacPhail, 16, has been missing since Tuesday night after attending a concert with friends at the Sound Academy at Polson Pier.

Police say the body was found at the most eastern point of the channel.

During a press conference on the pier, investigators say there was an altercation inside the club and MacPhail was escorted out after the incident at about 8 p.m.

The teen's family has been informed about the recovery of the body and they are distraught, police say.

MacPhail had Asperger syndrome, which is an autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

Up to 50 police officers and the marine unit were looking for the teen from Lindsay since his disappearance.

MacPhail was separated from his three friends at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday night. He was supposed to meet friends at the venue's parking lot at 11:30 p.m. but he didn't show up.
