KISS will play Oshawa show after all: Mayor John Gray
The Canadian Press
In this file photo, KISS rocks the stage at the Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest at Lebreton Flats, Wednesday, July 16, 2009.
OSHAWA, Ont. It appears Oshawa, Ont., will get its Kiss concert.
Mayor John Gray told CTV News on Tuesday evening he spoke to Kiss manager Doc McGhee and was assured a concert is scheduled for Oshawa on Oct. 7.
Residents were miffed when, after winning an online contest to have the band play Oshawa, the closest venue on Kiss's tour schedule was Toronto on Oct 2.
Gray told CTV he suspects the band wasn't prepared for the amount of negative publicity they got for skipping Oshawa.
Gray says his city had 14,000 votes, compared to 5,000 for Toronto, so the promoters could see the citizens really wanted to see a Kiss concert.
A band spokesman had said the band's show needed a larger venue, but Gray told CTV they could probably put extra seats in the 7,000 seat GM Centre.

I was really hoping KISS would play in Oshawa, I wanted to take my son to his first concert and it would have been perfect if they played close to our home in Whitby.
I am very disappointed in Gene Simmons not honoring the online contest.
I hope it is just a publicity stunt.

I personally am not a big fan of Kiss, but a contest is a contest. This should be honoured and I find it just rediculous that they would do that. I am sure all the fans in Oshawa were just beside themselves. Only to be dissapointed. I find it apalling.

Hey, I am a big KISS fan. I was looking forward to going to the GM center to see KISS in our home town since we won first place on the on- line contest. I guess KISS doesn't care about their fans anymore, they are just ...in it for the money. Why play in Oshawa at the GM Center when they can make everyone travel in to Toronto to the Air Canada Center (that is larger) and get more fans to pay for over priced concert tickets. I have been a Kiss fan since 1978, but after this I will not look at Kiss the same way. Oshawa was #1 in their fan contest. Everyone here in Oshawa wants them here. We should have Kiss playing here for at least one night. Gene and Paul I am disappointed in you! After all these year... are you only interested in the MONEY. I guess being Kiss's #1 fans doesn't mean anything to Kiss.. they just want our money.

Money is everything
That is truly an insult to the city of Oshawa, its getting passed for the ACC for more seat more sales more money ? It would be nice to see an empty statium. As right now its a fact its not for the fans but for the money.
Unless they go personally play in Oshawa.

I think it is so bad that Kiss would do this to Oshawa... I think that they should honor the contest... I know Gene is all about the money tho... this is why they are playing toronto, a 18,000 + seating arena not oshawa, a 6,500 seat arena. Its a sad day when they are only thinking about the money and not the fans

THey are only after the money and chances are they will sell more tickets in T.O then in Oshawa and lets not forget about how much they will sell in t-shirts and stuff like that.
It is truly a shame for the people of Oshawa.

when your band is involved in a contest, and a city wins said contest then you better damn well honor your commitment.

you should really get out then if you dont know anything about your surroundings, I do feel sorry for you......as for KISS not playing in Oshawa, it is a shame, why put up a contest and not adhere to it? Might as well not have anything at all, and do not get the fans hopes up. All and all, it is a big dissapointment.

I honestly don't see what the big deal is. You have band that has flown 3000 miles from Los Angeles to play a show and your going to complain if you have to drive 30 minutes into the city to see them. Get a grip people.

Pretty pathetic, they had to be guilted into honouring there contest...I agree with the many comments it's all about the money not the fans.. If I lived in Oshawa I would not go..
