Hundreds of residents gathered at big rally on Saturday against a proposal by Metrolinx to run diesel commuter trains between Union Station and Pearson Airport.
Families began their march from Weston Road and stopped at Sorauren Park near Dundas Street West for speeches.
Those that gathered say they're in favour of transit, but are calling on Metrolinx and the province to operate clean electric trains on this line, not diesel locomotives.
Fifty trains a day currently run on the line, but the number could climb to 250 or even 450 a day.
The protesters cited a report from Toronto's medical officer of health which raises concerns about increased pollution levels and health risks in neighborhoods along the line.
Metrolinx has said electric trains will be considered but not for several years and there is no budget plan to switch from diesel to electric.
