Two pedestrians were rushed to hospital after being struck and trapped under a truck in downtown Toronto.

Police received a call at 1:41 p.m. The pair were hit crossing the street mid-block near Yonge and Wellesley Streets. The victims are an elderly man and woman.

Both victims were removed from under the vehicle, and rushed to Sunnybrook hospital in life-threatening condition. The pair suffered leg and head injuries.

The driver of the vehicle is being investigated.

Up to 13 pedestrians have been killed so far this year on the city's roads.
