BARRIE, Ont. - Barrie Police say a man has been arrested after a domestic assault that started over a steak his girlfriend cooked for him.

Police say the 26-year-old man "took offence over the level of tenderness" of the steak, leading to an argument on Sunday.

The man allegedly punched the victim and knocked her down, then grabbed a metal pole and struck her on the thigh, and threw her purse on the front lawn where it was soaked by heavy rain.

Police were called to the scene but the man fled before they arrived.

However, on Monday police observed the accused parked near his home and arrested him without incident.

The man, who's name was not released, has been charged with assault, assault with a weapon, and mischief under $5,000.
