Police in Barrie, Ont. say they have arrested a 27-year-old man in connection with the murder of a Wal-Mart hairdresser.

Alexandra Flanagan's remains were found by a passerby four years ago in Lackie's Bush, a field located near a school and residential neighbourhood, three months after she was reported missing.

Police had closed off Bayfield Street and Highway 400 Thursday morning as investigators combed the area looking for evidence relating to the case. Authorities say the area remains closed and the search is ongoing.

By the afternoon, police announced they had arrested a suspect, identified as 29-year-old Innisfill resident Andrew Keene. He has been charged with murder, though police did not say if he is facing a first-degree or second-degree charge.

Detectives are expected to update the public on the investigation at a news conference Friday at 9 a.m.

A news release issued by police Thursday afternoon says members of the Flanagan family will attend the news conference. However, the Flanagan family has requested that media respect their privacy for the time being.
