Ontario Provincial Police have charged a 19-year-old man who is accused of driving more than double the speed limit on a highway northwest of Toronto early Tuesday.

Police said a silver Honda Accord was clocked at 184 kilometres per hour as it travelled through an 80-km/h zone near Highway 10 and Highpoint Side Road, just east of Orangeville.

An officer managed to pull over the vehicle.

OPP said Andrew Pearce, a Caledon resident, has been charged with stunt driving.

Pearce's driver's licence has been suspended for seven days and the car has been impounded for seven days, police said.

A stunt driving charge can be laid when a driver is caught travelling 50 km/h or more above the posted speed limit.

A conviction carries a maximum fine of $10,000, a driver's licence suspension of up to two years and demerits.
