Humane Society workers in Durham Region are trying to nurse a severely neglected dog back to health after it was found bleeding from its face and feet on Sunday night.

The dog, a male Chow, was found in the Courtice area, in what Humane Society and SPCA officials are calling "horrific condition." Officers say the four-year-old dog was dirty, thin and matted.

His ears were severely infected and his nails had grown out several centimeters long.

Blood was also seen oozing from the dog's entire face area and feet.

Staff with the Humane Society of Durham Region are trying to save the dog and have offered a $1,000 reward for any information leading to the conviction of the person responsible for its neglect.

Anyone with information about the dog is asked to contact the Durham Region Humane Society.
