Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Toronto and most of southern Ontario about a major snowstorm that is expected to hit the region Tuesday night.

The national weather agency says that heavy snowfall will be widespread over the Greater Toronto Area, leaving between 20 and 30 centimetres of snow on the ground in its' wake.

In the meantime, Toronto is under a cold weather alert as temperatures are expected to dip to -19C -- without the windchill -- by tonight.

We'll be tracking the storm over the next 48 hours. Stay tuned to CP24 and CP24.com for the latest details.
