A 35-year-old Oshawa man is facing impaired driving charges for the second time in three days.
Durham Region Police Service (DRPS) says officers pulled over a man in Oshawa just before 9 a.m. on Wednesday who was seen driving in the Grandview Street North and Beatrice Street East area while using his cellphone.
Officers administered a roadside screening test after speaking with the driver. Police say the man failed the test, was arrested, and further testing determined his blood alcohol levels were over the legal limit.
Further investigation revealed the man was driving with a suspended licence after being pulled over just two days earlier for the same reason.
DRPS say the man was pulled over in the same area of Grandview and Beatrice streets on Monday also just before 9 a.m. for driving while using his cellphone.
In both instances, after speaking with the man, officers administered a roadside screening test which he failed, and further testing determined his blood alcohol levels were over the legal limit leading to his arrest.
Police say 35-year-old Sharifuddin Abassi is charged with two counts of impaired driving, using a handheld communication device while driving, and driving with a suspended licence.
He’s also facing charges of driving while uninsured and driving with unsealed alcohol.
The charges have not been tested in court.
