Firefighters battle Scarborough blaze

UPDATED: Firefighters were on the scene of a three-alarm fire that broke out at a Scarborough warehouse Monday afternoon.

Toronto Fire Services said 17 trucks and approximately 70 firefighters were on the scene battling the blaze on Progress Avenue near Midland Avenue.

No injuries were reported.

The fire is now under control.

Falling concrete closes lanes

UPDATED: Part of Lake Shore Boulevard has reopened after pieces of concrete fell from the expressway above on Monday afternoon.

The cement fell from the Gardiner Expressway onto the road near Jarvis Street.

There are no reports of any damage or injuries.

Two westbound lanes of Lake Shore Boulevard near Jarvis Street were closed for several hours as crews investigated.

The lanes were reopened shortly after 8 p.m.

Pedestrian hit by SUV at street corner

UPDATED: A 33-year-old woman is in hospital in critical condition after she was struck by a sport utility vehicle at a street corner Monday morning.

Police said the woman was standing at the corner of Steeles Avenue East and Birchmount Road when she was hit by the vehicle at about 8 a.m.

The sport utility vehicle, heading east on Steeles Avenue, went onto the boulevard when its driver, a 51-year-old woman, lost control of the vehicle, police said.

Once it jumped the curb, the sport utility vehicle hit a bus shelter and a hydro pole before hitting the woman, who was waiting to cross Birchmount Road.

The woman was dragged into the intersection, where the sport utility vehicle was struck by a northbound Lexus vehicle.

Paramedics rushed the woman to Sunnybrook hospital, where she underwent emergency treatment for life-threatening injuries.

Police continue to investigate the collision. No one has been charged.
