TERRACE, B.C. - Mounties in northwestern B.C., are searching for a hard-hearted thief who ransacked the Terrace-area home of a dead man, while the victim's body was still inside.

Police say relatives of the 78-year-old victim found the man dead in his home in the community of Thornhill on Friday, and discovered the break-in at the same time.

Const. Angela Rabut says the victim was terminally ill and his death is not believed to be connected to the robbery.

But she says the thief likely realized the situation while going through the house.

She says, despite that, several personal items were taken, along with tools and supplies from the man's workshop.

Investigators are urging anyone with information about the break-in to contact police or Crimestoppers.
