It appears that an attempt by Mayor John Tory to poke fun at himself for mistakenly claiming that Kanye West is Canadian has set off some ‘Flashing Lights’ for the Chicago-born rapper’s legal team.

The one-minute video, which showed the ballcap-wearing mayor nodding along to West’s 2007 hit ‘Stronger’ while riding the subway, was widely circulated after being posted to Tory’s Twitter account on Thursday afternoon but by Friday morning it had been replaced by a message from Twitter stating that the video has been “withheld in response to a report from the copyright holder.”

In a statement issued to CP24, a spokesperson for Tory said that the mayor’s office is aware of the issue and is looking into it. The statement, however, notes that the video is a “parody and of course was made in that fun spirit.”

West, who has sold more than 21 million albums over the course of his career, was named as a performer for the closing ceremonies of the Pan American Games on Wednesday.

Following the announcement, Tory was asked for his reaction and appeared to be confused about who exactly West was, telling reporters that he is “smart enough to know that he's a proud product of our music industry here.”
