Caplansky’s Deli on College Street is closed for business after the building’s landlord terminated the lease and changed its locks last night.

Owner Zane Caplansky said he got a call from his alarm company at midnight Monday, telling him alarms were going off inside the business.

When he arrived at the store, he said he found a locksmith changing all of the locks, and a baliff inside, telling him he could not enter.

“I was given no notice of any kind of action like this and I’m going to fight this with everything I’ve got,” Caplansky said.

A notice put on the front door of the building said Caplansky’s lease was terminated effective immediately because he failed to “effect repairs not authorized by the landlord.”

“If I’d been given any kind of notice of what that meant I could explain it to you. What does that even mean?” Caplansky said.

He said he is in the process of seeking a court injunction to “get back in the space and continue serving people food.”

The College Street location serves as a base for the Caplansky’s food truck and the catering business, which are both suspended for now.
