Investigators are trying to figure out the cause of a fatal fire that broke out in a downtown Toronto apartment block Tuesday night.
Firefighters found the victim - a 44-year-old man who used a wheelchair - as a fire burned in his ninth-floor suite at 84 Carlton St., an assisted living facility operated by Tobias House Attendant Care Inc., at about 9 p.m.
Fire crews used a sledgehammer to force their way into the man's suite.
After they extinguished the blaze, firefighters swept through the 12-storey building, located near Church Street, to look for additional victims, but everyone was accounted for. No other injuries were reported.
Flames were contained to a bedroom, said Toronto Fire Services spokesman Capt. Mike Strapko.
Police and the Office of the Fire Marshal are investigating.
Damage is estimated at $50,000.
