Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement and a rainfall warning for Toronto and parts of the GTA in advance of a system that could dump up to 50 millimetres of rain on the city later this week.
The weather agency says that two systems will merge over southern Ontario on Thursday, resulting in between 25 and 50 mm of rain for the Greater Toronto Area and winds that could gust up to 80-kilometres-per-hour.
Milder conditions are also in the forecast with a high of 3 C predicted for Thursday and 5 C predicted for Friday.
As a result of the rain and warmer temperatures, Environment Canada is warning city residents of the potential for significant snow melt on Thursday and Friday. There is a risk of flooding and higher than usual water levels.
