Justice Ian Nordheimer has ruled that some of the redacted information contained in police documents relating to an investigation into the activities of Mayor Ford's friend Alexander Lisi can be released to the public.

Earlier this month about 400 pages of the document were released but hundreds of pages were blacked out.

According to lawyer Peter Jacobsen, who represented several media organizations in court, the information that will be released is considered “non-essential” to the prosecution of Lisi.

The information is expected to be released sometime before 4 p.m.

Lisi is currently facing a number of drug charges as well as an extortion charge for his alleged efforts to recover a video believed to show Mayor Rob Ford smoking from a glass pipe.

“This is a very significant decision and it will result in much more information coming out to the public,” Jacobsen told CP24 Wednesday morning. “What it contains is material that does not specifically relate to Lisi, so for example there may be telephone conversations or matters that the police were observing that may have involved other persons.”

The information that will be released is separate from wiretaps relating to a drugs and gang investigation in Etobicoke, which media lawyers are also petitioning the courts for.

“I think people will find it pretty interesting and obviously we wouldn’t have taken the courts time with this if we didn’t think it was in the public interest,” Jacobsen said.
