A Yonge Street restaurant was evacuated Thursday afternoon after a fire broke out inside its kitchen.

The fire broke out shortly after 3:15 p.m. at Paramount Fine Foods, a Lebanese restaurant located on Yonge Street near Dundas.

“It was a small grease fire that started in the venting system and went from the ground floor through to the second floor,” District Chief Paul Duncan told CP24 at the scene. “It was a lot of smoke, but it really didn’t take that long to extinguish.”

Yonge Street was closed between Shuter and Dundas streets as crews battled the blaze.

The damage from the fire is pegged at $5,000.

The restaurant's owner told CP24 he is planning to reopen Friday morning.
