The Board of Governors of Exhibition Place recommended that Toronto City Council extend Muzik nightclub’s lease by another 10 years at a meeting on Friday.

Board member and Trinity-Spadina councillor Mike Layton told CP24 the Board of Governors is moving towards extending Muzik’s lease by another 10 years, pending council’s approval.

If council approves the extension, Muzik’s lease would expire in 2034.

Layton and Parkdale-High Park councillor Gord Perks had earlier wrote a letter calling on the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario to revoke or suspend the nightclub’s liquor license. It cited recent incidents at the venue including a mass shooting on Aug. 4 that killed 23-year-old Duvel Hibbert and 26-year-old Ariela Navarro-Fenoy and wounded three others.

The letter also cited six infractions the AGCO has documented at the venue, leading the commission to levy $6,000 in fines since 2012.

The nightclub’s management has always said it employs an ample number of security guards, including 73 who were on duty the night of the mass shooting last month.
