An intense storm swept through the GTA on Monday night, bringing lightning, strong winds, rain and hail.

The storm was intense, but brief as it moved through the area. Still, power outages were reported.

Further east in Ottawa, high winds brought down trees and hydro lines, leaving several thousand hydro customers without power.

Meanwhile, the City of Toronto has terminated its heat alert because Tuesday won’t be as hot and humid.

Environment Canada is predicting a high of 27 C with mainly sunny skies, northwest winds at 30 kilometres-per-hour, and a UV index of 8 or very high.

The national weather service called off its humidex advisory late Monday night after the temperature reached 35 C, setting a new heat record for July 23.
