Toronto police have identified a man who was fatally shot at his home in Riverdale Sunday.

Marcus Gibson, 24, was found dead by paramedics in a second-floor bedroom of his home on Munro Street in the Dundas Street East and Broadview Avenue area at around 4 p.m.

First responders came to the home after a local resident heard five shots fired and called 911, police said.

Gibson was pronounced dead at the scene.

It’s not clear if anyone else was home at the time of the shooting. Police said Sunday that they did not find any signs of forced entry at the home.

Police confirmed Monday that Gibson was one of the men who was previously charged with first-degree murder in connection with a 2014 shooting at a restaurant on Dundas Street West. However charges against him were later stayed.

Investigators have not said whether there may be any link between that case and Gibson’s murder.

Neighbours near the scene Sunday told CP24 that Gibson was the father of an infant.

Sunday’s shooting took place just three months after gunfire rang out in the same area, leaving a 61-year-old grandmother dead after she was struck by a stray bullet.

“I’m totally scared,” One local woman who knew Gibson told CP24 Monday when asked about the violence in the area. “I don’t go near the windows. I don’t even come outside anymore really. I’m really affected badly.”

She said she is friendly with Gibson’s family and remembers him as “a very nice guy, very kind – always said hi to me.”

An autopsy is set to be conducted today.

No suspect information has been released so far.
