One man has been rushed to a trauma centre without vital signs and another man is in custody following a shooting in the city’s west end Sunday evening.

Police responded to a call around 7:45 p.m. near Ossington Avenue and Harrison Street.

Paramedics arrived on scene and rushed to the man to hospital without vital signs.

Bystanders at the scene performed CPR to try and revive the man before paramedics arrived, EMS told CP24.

One of the men who tried to help the victim told CP24 he was woken up by the sound of gunfire.

“I woke up to the sound of a gunshot,” said the man who asked not to be identified. “I came out my door and looked over my fence and saw somebody on the ground in the yard just south of us and somebody was screaming that he’d been shot, so I ran and gave CPR.”

He also said he saw a man with a rifle at the scene.

A male suspect is in custody, police said. The gun believed to have been used in the shooting has also been recovered by police.

Another neighbour told CP24 a dispute over money broke out at a party in the area just prior to the shooting.

Ossington Avenue has been shut down between Harrison Street and Dundas Street West as police investigate.
