Charges against a North York couple have been upgraded to first-degree murder following the death of their four-year-old son over Thanksgiving weekend.

According to police, officers responded to a call at a residence located on Finch Avenue East, east of Leslie Street, just before 2:30 a.m. Monday.

A four-year-old boy, identified by police as Jaelin Sollow Roberto-Colley, was discovered with obvious injuries, and without vital signs.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The couple was subsequently taken into custody and charged with failing to provide the necessaries of life.

On Thursday, the charge against both was upgraded to first-degree murder.

Joel Roberto, 27, and 24-year-old Ravyn Colley appeared in court Thursday morning.

No further information on the case was provided by police.
