A group of Toronto parents and their children held a sit-in outside Rob Ford’s office at city hall Tuesday, saying the mayor doesn’t have the moral authority to lead the city.

The parents brought their kids as a way to support their position that Ford’s behaviour is setting a poor example for children and his crack cocaine scandal is embarrassing the city.

The Ford scandal has become a topic of discussion among students, the group told reporters.

“We’re fed up with Rob Ford. We don’t think he’s a responsible mayor,” said Nadya, a Grade 10 student who took a break from school to take part in the quiet and peaceful demonstration, in an interview with CP24 reporter Katie Simpson. “I feel like Toronto needs to hold the position of mayor to a better moral standard and that Toronto should have better standards for people who hold authority.”

Eli, a Grade 8 student, said the attention has brought embarrassment to Toronto.

"He's reflecting our city in a very bad way ... and I think he is making our city look very bad and I don't think he should be allowed to run anymore," Eli said.

By late morning, the demonstrators were still waiting for Ford to show up at city hall.

Nick, another Grade 8 student in the group, said he wanted to tell the mayor to do a better job of representing the city.

“I would say, ‘Rob, you’re done. You have another nine months in office, try not to mess anything up,’” Nick told CP24.

The teens who took part carried signs reading “We are more than just taxpayers” and “My Toronto includes everyone.”

One parent displayed a rainbow flag bearing a red Maple Leaf in the centre to show support for the city's decision to fly the rainbow flag outside city hall during Sochi 2014.

Last week, Ford said the rainbow flag should be taken down and replaced with the Canadian flag because the athletic events in Sochi, Russia are "not about someone's sexual preference."

The city raised the rainbow flag last Friday to show solidarity with the gay community amid worldwide protests against Russia's anti-gay laws.
