Peel police have suspended their search for body parts in a Mississauga park and are now trying to put together the “bizarre and complicated puzzle” of Hua Guang Liu’s final days.

Liu, 41, was reported missing by her boyfriend on Aug. 10 after failing to return home from the Scarborough health spa that she owned.

On Tuesday she was identified as the victim in a bizarre dismemberment case that has seen her body parts found in parks in Mississauga and Scarborough over the past week.

“There are some remains that to our knowledge are still outstanding, but we have ceased our search in Mississauga and are moving forward on trying to trace her last steps and whereabouts,” Sgt. Pete Brandwood told CP24 Wednesday morning. “We will put those pieces together in this bizarre and complicated puzzle before moving forward on trying to identify suspects and possible motives.”

Police began investigating Aug. 15 after a hiker found a foot partially submerged in a stretch of the Credit River that flows through Mississauga’s Hewick Meadows Park.

That discovery was followed by a head and hands upriver, prompting a massive search that at its peak saw 30 to 50 officers scouring the river from dawn to dusk.

Then on the weekend a thigh, two calves and an arm were found near a creek in Scarborough.

At a noon press conference Tuesday, police confirmed the parts found in the two areas came from the same victim. They also said they are treating the investigation as a homicide and believe it is an isolated incident. The cause of death has not been determined.

“There is a lot to be looked at in this case as far as evidence and witnesses and every piece of evidence always has a tangent associated to it,” Brandwood said. “The officers will obtain some evidence, go down that road and if there is a fork in that road we will keep continuing on in either direction till we get some evidence and other information discovered that will allow us to go more directly towards finding a suspect in this case.”

Liu, a single mom of three, was a licensed holistic practitioner and body rubber according to City of Toronto records

She was also listed as sole owner of Forget-Me-Not Health Care, a spa at 2466 Eglinton Ave. E. just seven kilometres from the Scarborough park where her arms and parts of her legs were found on the weekend.
