A 27-year-old man found dead inside a North York apartment over the weekend was the victim of a homicide, Toronto police now say.

Byron Linares was found suffering from a fatal gunshot wound early Sunday morning. His body was found at around 3 a.m. inside a ninth floor unit in an apartment building on Empress Avenue near Yonge Street and Sheppard Avenue.

At the time, police said they were treating the death as suspicious, but on Tuesday they announced the case has been officially deemed a homicide.

Police also said they still have not spoken to a woman who made the original 911 call and renewed their calls for that person to come forward.

No arrests have been made in connection with the case and police have not released information about possible suspects.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at (416) 808-7000 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at (416) 222-TIPS (8477).
