Many of the contractors that remove snow in the City of Toronto will be allowed to help with the cleanup efforts in Buffalo.

According to a spokesperson, General Manager of Transportation Steve Buckley has contacted his counterparts in the snow battered Western New York city to inform them that the majority of crews that usually work for the City of Toronto over the winter months will not be under contract until Dec. 1 and are free to go help with cleanup efforts in the interim.

Buckley made the call after reviewing the weather forecast for the next few days and determining that the city has sufficient resources on hand to deal with any snowfall, the spokesperson said.

A State of Emergency remains in effect in Buffalo after a lake-effect storm buried the city under six feet of snow Wednesday, trapping people on highways and in their homes. The city is expected to get more snow tonight.
