Three people were taken to hospital, including one in critical condition, following a crash near Schomberg early Sunday  morning.

According to Ontario Provincial Police, an eastbound Ford Escape crossed the median and collided with a westbound Dodge Caravan while travelling along Highway 9 near 11th Concession at around 3:20 a.m.

Emergency crews needed more than an hour to extricate the 57-year-old male driver of the Caravan. He was then transported to an Orangeville hospital before being airlifted to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in critical condition.

The 22-year-old male driver of the Ford Escape was also taken to an Orangeville hospital before being airlifted to St. Michael's Hospital in serious condition.

A third person was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

β€œAt this point we are appealing for any witnesses as their statements would certainly help us with our investigation,” OPP Const. Lisa McIntyre told CP24 at the scene.

Highway 9 was closed between 11th Concession and 15th Concession as police investigated, but it reopened at around 12 p.m.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Const. Brennan at (905) 841-5777.
