WHITBY, Ont. - Police say two people are facing charges in connection with a 22-year-old woman who says she was held captive for several days in Whitby, Ont.

Durham regional police say the woman managed to escape on Wednesday afternoon and went a nearby grocery store where employees called authorities.

Investigators say when officers arrived, the woman -- who had suffered multiple injuries -- told them she had been held captive by acquaintances because she owed them money.

The suspects, Tara Heffering, 31, and Tremaine Daley, 19, are charged with forcible confinement.

Heffering also is charged with assault causing bodily harm, while Daley is charged with obstructing a police officer.
