About 90 officers are facing police disciplinary action in the wake of the G20 riots on the streets of Toronto last June.

Toronto police chief Bill Blair says the officers are facing discipline for removing their name tags during the summit, the Globe and Mail reports.

The chief appeared before the Common's public safety committee on Wednesday and says it's his rule that officers wear their names displayed on their uniforms. Otherwise, they could lose a day's pay.

Blair spoke before the committee to explain his officers' actions during the summit. The offending officers were identified after investigators went through thousands of hours of surveillance video footage.

Blair told the committee charges against about a hundred people were thrown out, because officers failed to obtain appropriate arrest warrants, according to the newspaper.
