The government of Ontario is launching a comprehensive safety review of propane facilities throughout the province.

The probe will investigate the storage, handling, location and transportation of the flammable fuel, says Minister of Small Business and Consumer Services Harinder Takhar.

The province will look into how well facility inspections are done, and how well enforcements are upheld, in an effort to enforce the industry's best practices across the board.

Two independent experts have already been hired.

"At the end of the day, it's the duty of the government... to make sure all things that we do meet safety standards at the public is protected," he says.

The review comes as a response to the massive Aug. 10 explosion at North York's Sunrise Propane.

It will begin on Sept. 8 and finish within 45 days.

At that time, the investigators will present a list of recommendations to the province on how to make the handling of propane safer.
