TORONTO -- Blue Jays second baseman Devon Travis was named the American League rookie of the month on Monday.

Travis, who was acquired in the off-season in the trade that sent centre-fielder Anthony Gose to Detroit, hit six home runs in April while batting .325 with a .393 on-base percentage.

The 24-year-old leads all rookies in hits (28), runs scored (20), home runs (seven) and RBIs (23).

Travis had never played above double-A before making the Blue Jays big league roster out of spring training.
