Several hundred Tamil protesters have again converged on Toronto streets to demonstrate against violence in Sri Lanka.

Tamil-Canadians and their supporters chanted and waved flags on the sidewalk on University Avenue across from the U.S. Consulate.

They were planning a moving protest through Saturday afternoon that would take the crowds along several busy streets and finally to Queen's Park.

That's where a man who has been on hunger strike for the past week is demonstrating.

Tamil protesters have held several demonstrations in recent months to bring attention to the killing of people in a civil war in Sri Lanka and are calling for other governments to help reach a ceasefire.

In late April, more than 1,000 protesters blocked University Avenue for five days before police arrested 15 people and moved the crowds to the sidewalk.
