Toronto FC has signed a pair of young defenders to the squad from two clubs in Gambia.

Emmanuel Gomez, 18, and Amadou Sanyang, 17, have been added to the TFC roster this season.

"Both these players are great young talents and have a huge future ahead of them," says Toronto FC's director of soccer Mo Johnston.

He says Gomez, a centre back, is very good in the air and has good speed while Sanyan is very talented with "great abilities."

Gomez comes from the Samger Football Club of the Gambain first division, while Sanyang joins Toronto from Real de Banjul Football Club.

Toronto FC has not released financial details of the deal.

Since Sanyang is 17, he won't be able to play with the senior squad until his 18th birthday in August - which is on the same day Toronto plays the New England Revolution.

The young defender won Best Midfielder of the National League award in 2007 and was a member of the team that won the Four Nation Tournament in Ivory Coast - and was named MVP runner-up that same year.

Gomez will be looking to use size to his advantage - he stands at six-feet-three and weighs 171 pounds. He has been a fixture of his club and national U-20 team.
