Four passengers who were trapped on a streetcar after a live wire came down during Thursday morning's commute are hailing the operator for keeping everyone calm.

The passengers told CP24's Cam Woolley the streetcar operator stayed calm, told the passengers to stay on board and wait for crews to arrive, and reassured them that everyone would be OK.

Afterwards, the driver took the passengers out for coffee.

The ordeal began when the live wire came down on a Spadina Avenue streetcar at Adelaide Street shortly before 8 a.m.

The streetcar stopped at the scene and everyone remained on board because, police said, the streetcar and the tracks became electrified. People risked being electrocuted if they stepped off the vehicle.

TTC officials told CP24 everyone on board the streetcar was safe. No injuries were reported.

The streetcar's occupants were stuck on the vehicle for about 30 minutes as crews shut off the power supply and lifted the wire off the streetcar. Once the power was turned off, the occupants were allowed to walk off the streetcar.

Northbound Spadina Avenue has reopened between King and Adelaide streets.
