The TTC union took a big step to bridge the gap between workers and riders on Sunday.

The Amalgamated Transit Union hosted the first of three public meetings, where they invited riders to tell them where customer service can be improved.

The forum took place at the Downsview Secondary School, near Keele Street and Wilson Avenue.

Union leaders say the consultations are their way of trying smooth things over on the heels of some high-profile confrontations between riders and workers.

The meeting comes in the wake of complaints, and several publicized incidents, including a video showing a TTC employee sleeping on the job earlier this year.

After months of taking a defensive approach, the union appeared to be accepting criticism from riders. TTC Chair Adam Giambrone was at the meeting and says he was impressed by the union's approach.

The union is hosting another meeting next Sunday in Scarborough. The final meeting will be held on May 2 at the Ryerson University Library near Yonge and Dundas Streets.
