A woman has been transported to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries after being struck and pinned under a vehicle in the city's east end Monday night.

The woman, believed to be in her 40s, was struck by a Lincoln SUV at the intersection of Midland and Eglinton avenues shortly before 9 p.m.

She was pinned under the vehicle for approximately 15 minutes before being freed by emergency workers, police say.

She was conscious when transported to hospital with neck and back injuries, a representative with Toronto EMS says.

Police are currently searching for the male driver of the vehicle who fled the scene on foot after striking the woman.

No description of the driver has been provided by police.

Officers continue to investigate at the scene.
