One person was taken to hospital with minor injuries following an explosion in Liberty Village Monday evening.

It happened inside a condominium unit on the sixth floor of a residential building on East Liberty Street just before 6:30 p.m.

According to Toronto Fire Services, the elevator doors were blown out by the force of the blast, which also created a significant amount of debris.

There is currently conflicting information on the cause of the explosion. In a tweet sent out shortly after the blast, police identified it as caused by gas. A representative with Toronto Fire Services, however, said that the cause of the explosion had yet to be determined.

One man, believed to be in his 30s, was taken to hospital with minor burns to his face and hands, Toronto Paramedic Services said.

Several floors of the building were evacuated as a precaution. Residents have since been allowed to return to their units.

Police and firefighters continue to investigate at the scene.
