With 184 seats in the House of Commons, Canada's next prime minister Justin Trudeau is flush with choice when it comes to forming his cabinet. He has committed to appointing an equal number of men and women to his ministry and some star GTA candidates may be in the running for a prestigious post.

Bill Morneau (Finance)

The new Member of Parliament for Toronto Centre is well-known in the business community and even assisted Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne in developing a provincial retirement savings plan.

Chrystia Freeland (International Trade)

Freeland, a former journalist who studied at Harvard and Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, has held several editorial roles for publications including the Financial Times, Washington Post, and The Economist. The former Toronto Centre MP and trade critic is now representing University- Rosedale and may find a spot for herself in Trudeau’s cabinet.

Adam Vaughan (Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs)

The former Toronto city councillor turned Member of Parliament represents the diverse Toronto riding of Spadina- Fort York. Vaughan helped develop the Liberal Party’s infrastructure plan and his portfolio could be well-served in that capacity.

Bill Blair (Defence, Justice)

A former Toronto police chief, Blair now represents the riding of Scarborough- Southwest in the House of Commons. The rookie MP’s background could be best used in a defence or justice role.

Mark Holland (House Leader)

The Ajax MP represented the riding from 2004 to 2011 until Conservative Chris Alexander scooped up the spot in the last election. Holland, who served as a Liberal critic for natural resources, public safety and national security, has taken the riding back from Alexander and could see himself in a cabinet post.
