A three-alarm fire that destroyed a home under construction near Avenue Road and Wilson Avenue Friday morning is being treated as "suspicious," according to Toronto police.

Firefighters were called to the home on Joicey Boulevard at around 3 a.m. and found the structure completely engulfed in flames.

Surrounding homes were evacuated however crews were able to contain the blaze to the one home.

“We were worried about the houses on either side... but the crews did a great job of protecting those houses," Platoon Chief Kaarel Betlem told CP24 at the scene.

By 5:30 a.m., crews managed to get the fire under control but Betlem said firefighters will likely remain on scene all day to monitor hot spots.

Toronto Fire confirmed that they received reports of an explosion prior to the fire but could not confirm if an explosion had actually occurred.

At the height of the blaze, 13 fire trucks and 50 firefighters were on scene.

No injuries were reported.

When asked about damage, Betlem said the North York home is "a total loss."

Toronto Fire would not say if the incident is considered to be suspicious but confirmed the Office of the Fire Marshal has been called in to investigate.

"Right now we don’t know what to think," Betlem said.
