Firefighters battled a significant blaze at a 155-year-old building in Unionville on Wednesday.

The fire broke out inside the former Queen's Hotel on Main Street Unionville near Carlton Road at around 1 p.m.

The building, which was constructed in 1870, currently holds several retail stores.

According to Markham Fire Chief Bill Snowball, an offensive interior attack to put out the fire was launched and Markham Fire confirmed at around 6 p.m. that the blaze had been extinguished.

All employees were out of the building by the time fire crews arrived at the scene, he said. No injuries have been reported.
