A 13-year-old girl charged in connection with the stabbing of another teenage girl in Flemingdon Park on Christmas Day was scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall this morning.

The stabbing took place at the Flemingdon Park Shopping Plaza on Don Mills Road, near Overlea Boulevard, at around 7 p.m. on Dec. 25.

According to police, two young females were walking through the mall when they were approached by a group of teenagers, three girls and two boys, who they did not know. 

Investigators say an "unprovoked verbal altercation" began and the incident quickly escalated. 

The first two girls were physically assaulted and one of the girls was stabbed by a female in the group.

The victim of the attack suffered life-threatening injuries after being stabbed in the upper thigh and was rushed to hospital, where she remains in stable condition.

The suspect, who cannot be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, weapons dangerous, carrying a concealed weapon and assault.
