Toronto Fire says an east-end home that was the site of a deadly blaze on Monday night was not outfitted with any working smoke alarms.

The fire at the home near Gerrard Street East and Greenwood Avenue was reported at around 8 p.m. and knocked down about 20 minutes later.

A man in his 50s was then found by a basement door and pronounced dead on scene.

According to Toronto Fire Captain Mike Strapko, a cause of the blaze has not yet been determined and the investigation has been handed over to the Ontario Fire Marshal.

The damage from the fire is estimated at $80,000.
