A North York home sustained “extensive" damage after a two-alarm fire broke out at the residence on Sunday night.

Fire crews were called to the home located on Franklin Avenue, near Yonge Street and Highway 401, at around 5:30 p.m.

Platoon Chief Wayne Patterson said the property owner was doing plumbing work when the fire started in the garage of the home.

He said the fire moved up through the eaves of the house and into the attic.

At the height of the fire, 20 firetrucks were on scene to help battle the blaze.

Patterson said crews were able to knock down the fire quickly.

Due to the amount of water used to extinguish the fire, Patterson said the home sustained “extensive” damage.

Crews will be monitoring the scene overnight.
