York Regional Police are investigating after a man was shot to death near Martin Grove Road and Highway 7 in Vaughan Thursday afternoon.

Police say multiple gunshots were reported at Regina Café on Regina Road at around 2 p.m. When officers arrived, a man in his late 40s or early 50s was found dead in the parking lot outside of the business.

It is unclear whether the man was at the café or leaving the business at the time of the shooting.

Const. Andy Pattenden told CP24 there will be a heavy police presence in the area, which will be closed for at least a day while investigators process the scene.

"We have a lot of investigators on the ground there and they will be speaking with anyone that was at the café at the time," he said.

Police are looking for at least one male suspect and a grey compact car that was seen fleeing the scene at the time of the shooting.

The homicide unit, the forensic identification unit and the coroner are all currently at the crime scene.

Police say there were additional witnesses in the area who reportedly fled at the time of the shooting. The police service is asking those individuals to come forward with any information they may have on the incident by contacting York Regional Police's homicide unit.
