A 74-year-old man was rushed to hospital in critical condition after a serious collision in Ajax on Tuesday morning.

Durham Regional Police say the elderly man was driving a 2009 Lexus sedan eastbound on Kingston Road approaching Salem Road when he collided with a southbound Dodge Ram at around 7 a.m.

Durham Regional Police Const. George Tudos told CP24 that the elderly man was rushed to a Toronto trauma centre in life-threatening condition.

The two occupants of the pickup truck, a 25-year-old man and a 79-year-old man, were transported to hospital with minor injuries.

The area was closed for several hours for the police investigation.

Members of Durham Regional Police's Traffic Services unit were on scene Tuesday and will be looking into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
